TEAS practice test math: 38 questions, 57 minutes
The math section gives you 38 questions and 57 minutes, which is 1.5 minutes a question [1][2]. It is the one section where a calculator-free habit of checking units and fractions pays off fastest. ATI groups the content into numbers and algebra, and measurement and data [1].
A worked example
This is one of our own original practice questions, not a real test question.
A recipe uses 3/4 cup of broth for 6 servings. At the same rate, how much broth is needed for 10 servings?
A) 1 1/2 cups B) 1 1/4 cups C) 4 1/2 cups D) 1 cup
Answer: B. Per serving: 3/4 ÷ 6 = 1/8 cup. Then 10 × 1/8 = 10/8 = 1 1/4 cups. The common slip is multiplying 3/4 by 6 and getting 4 1/2 (answer C): that scales the wrong way.
How to practice it
- Time yourself at 1.5 minutes a question from the first day, so the clock is not new on test day.
- For each miss, write down whether it was the setup (which operation) or the arithmetic. Setup misses need a method; arithmetic misses need repetition.
- Re-do missed questions two days later without looking at the explanation.
Our free diagnostic includes math questions scored by section, so you see where your points are before you plan study time. See also the full TEAS format and what score you need.
